About Us
Team 6749 of Eagle Ridge Academy, known as the tERAbytes, is a small high school team located in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The tERAbytes have 12 members and are heading into their fifth year as a team. The school also houses a number of robotics teams that follow other FIRST based competitions for students in K-8. The robotics teams throughout the school currently have over 120 members.
The robotics department started five years ago, a group of high school students petitioned to start a robotics team at Eagle Ridge Academy. This excited group of students set out to compete against 211 other FIRST robotics teams around the state, many with far superior materials, funds, experience, and manpower. The group’s goal was a simple one: create a moving robot that would accomplish a single task really well. The newly formed robotics team, the tERAbytes, put their heart and soul into accomplishing that goal and at the regional tournament, they were recognized with the ‘Rookie Inspiration Award’. This honor is presented to the highest ranking rookie team at the regional level. To cap the amazing first year, they would go on to finish 22nd at the Minnesota State High School League FIRST Robotics Championship.
Since the first year, the team has continued to expand and improve. Other robotics teams have also been created over time, giving younger students more opportunities to learn about S.T.E.M. Each year the team gained more and more success, and saw more students grow to their fullest potential. In the 2021, competition the tERAbytes reached their highest achievement yet placing first in the state. The elementary FIRST LEGO League Team also placed well, winning second in state the last time they competed.
Even after the season is over, the robotics team continues to inspire and encourage education among students. During the past school years, the tERAbytes secured a new room to manage operations, petitioned sponsors for new materials which were then donated to the school, found additional mentorship, started a LEGO League program where high school students mentor 3rd – 6th graders, host summer camps, and continued to develop interest and excitement around the school by creating community-wide events and unforgettable experiences.
